In 1982, Robert Truitt, the first President of Leadership Lafayette, was quoted as saying "If a community is to continue prospering as a vital, developing, alive place to live and work, then its success will in large part be determined by the vigor of its citizen involvement." More than 27 years later, Leadership Lafayette remains steadfastly committed to preparing and nurturing individuals for community leadership. In 2007, Leadership Lafayette celebrated the organization's 25th Anniversary of serving as the primary catalyst for leadership development in the region.

To provide Leadership Lafayette with the financial resources needed to continue preparing our citizens to assume leadership positions within our community and to support goals established in the organization's strategic plan, the Campaign for Leadership Lafayette has been established with a goal of raising $500,000. This anniversary campaign will focus on building the Leadership Lafayette endowment. The interest generated from the endowment fund will offset program needs and expenses beyond what tuition fees cover, enabling Leadership Lafayette to continue preparing Greater Lafayette residents for community and professional leadership.

Contributions to the endowment will:

  1. Offset the cost of the Leadership Lafayette program so that the tuition may be maintained at a level that assures broad-based participation from all sectors of the community.
  2. Maintain the excellent quality of the program, and
  3. Assure that Greater Lafayette will have a sufficient core of informed community and business leaders with the skills and initiative required to meet our community's needs and to chart the course for the 21st century.

Developing sound leadership skills does not "just happen" but requires intentional cultivation, the mentoring of experienced guides and a clear understanding that community leadership is not defined by position or title. Community leadership development is not a mission that can be left to chance. With this in mind, the Leadership Lafayette Board of Directors developed a strategic plan that is continually reviewed and adjusted. As Leadership Lafayette continues to prepare and nurture Greater Lafayette residents for community and professional leadership by responding to community needs, seeking new collaborations, and exploring and initiating new programs, we must ensure a strong and stable financial base for the organization today and in the future.
